The route in detail
Created in 1895 by Willie Fernie (winner of the Open in 1883) then redesigned in the 1920s by Dr Alister MacKenzie, the Portland Course is a links shorter and more sheltered than its neighbor. Its winding layout through gorse and broom includes a rare configuration: five par 3s and five par 5s, including four in the last nine holes, offering a balanced and pleasant game.
