A recent list of the best golf courses in Mexico and the Caribbean included regulars at the top of the rankings, such as Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda, Sandy Lane (Green Monkey) in Barbados, and The Abaco Club in the Bahamas.

The course & its setting
What may come as a surprise is that the Mexican course Querencia ranked second, just behind the famous Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. Such a ranking guarantees a golfing experience among the best in the world.
Designed by Tom Fazio, this course extends over a 340-hectare private estate located between Palmilla and Costa Azul, in the popular resort of Los Cabos. It is complemented by a modern clubhouse and training facilities overlooking the Sea of Cortez.
Route & Infrastructure
The fairways are laid out back and forth, with a series of very difficult holes in the middle of the first nine holes (holes 4 to 7 are classified as the most demanding). Two long par 5s then follow each other at the turn of the course. Hole 14, although the shortest of the four par 3s (164 yards from the back tees), is the most difficult thanks to its green perched on a ridge above an arroyo.
Gil Hanse also designed, on paper, a second course at Querencia, a project which could further strengthen the reputation of the complex if it ever sees the light of day.
