An essential alternative on the Golf Coast
It's not easy for a parkland course on England's Golf Coast to compete with all the links courses along the coast, but the Old Course course at Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa, with its 18 holes, does quite well as a credible alternative to other links courses.

The route in detail
Opened in 1996, the resort quickly gained a place on the professional circuits, hosting each year events of the European Challenge Tour, then the European Senior Tour and finally the PGA Europro Tour.

Infrastructure & Services
Stretching over 6400m from the back tees, the layout is configured as two nine-hole loops returning to the clubhouse, with water coming into play on more than half of the holes. In homage to its prestigious golfing neighbors, many of the sand hazards are designed as links-style pot bunkers.
Notable holes include the 5th hole, a dogleg left par 4, rated difficulty index 2, and the shortest par 3 at the 16th hole, where the tee shot flies over a pond to reach a green protected by four bunkers in front, with a fifth sneaky bunker placed behind the green.
